Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
This policy explains what Hindsight collects, why, where it's kept and for how long. It covers the Hindsight iPhone app and this website. "We" and "us" mean ZiveMind LLC, the Wyoming company that runs Hindsight.
In short
- Your portfolios and settings stay on your iPhone.
- You can use Hindsight without an account.
- Hindsight has no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- We don't sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Our server runs your backtests and doesn't keep them.
- You can delete your account in the app.
On your iPhone
Hindsight keeps your portfolios, backtest settings, tool inputs and display choices on your iPhone. They're part of your iPhone's backups. They aren't stored on our server, even when you're signed in. The app also keeps recent results on your iPhone so they load faster. If you sign in, your session is kept in your iPhone's Keychain. Signing out deletes it.
The app asks for one permission: notifications, for Rebalance Alerts (Pro+). Alerts are scheduled on your iPhone. They use no server and no push token. The app doesn't use your camera, microphone, location, contacts or photos.
What the app sends to our server
Backtests, reports and tools. To run one, the app sends what the result needs. That's the portfolios' names, holdings, weights and rules, and your backtest settings. Settings include dates, the starting amount, contributions and withdrawals, tax inputs such as filing status, state and other income, and margin settings. Tools also send their inputs, such as ages and income in Retire Early. Our server computes the result and sends it back. It doesn't store what you sent or the result.
Ticker search. When you search for a ticker, the app sends what you type. It isn't stored.
Nothing else. The app adds no device ID, advertising ID, location, contacts, photos or analytics to any request. It connects only to our server, to Apple and, if you use Google sign-in, to Google.
Accounts
An account is optional. You need one to subscribe. You can sign in with Apple or Google.
When you sign in, we keep:
- a random account ID,
- the ID Apple or Google uses for you,
- the email address Apple or Google gives us, if any (with Apple, this may be a private relay address),
- your plan and subscription status,
- when you created the account.
We don't keep your name, photo, phone number, birth date, address or a device ID. We don't send marketing to your email address. A sign-in session lasts up to 30 days.
Subscriptions
Apple handles every payment. We never see your card, your Apple ID or your billing address. When you subscribe, Apple's record of the purchase carries your Hindsight account ID, so your plan follows your account. From Apple's signed record, we keep your plan, the product, the dates of the current period, whether it's a free trial, Apple's transaction ID and the date Apple signed it. We don't keep prices or receipts.
Support messages
From the app. We receive your message and the email address you give, if any. We also receive your plan, the app version, the iOS version and your device model. If you're signed in, we receive your account ID.
By email. If you write to support@tryhindsight.fyi, we receive your email as you sent it.
We use these only to answer you and to fix problems. We don't store your IP address with a message. Each message from the app is stored on our server and sent to our support inbox as an email. We keep messages on our server for up to 12 months. We delete the inbox copy when your request is done, or sooner if you ask. Deleting your account deletes the messages you sent while signed in. To delete a message you sent without an account, email us.
Cancellation survey
When you cancel a plan, the app may ask why. Answering is optional. We keep your reason, your comment (if any), the plan you're leaving, whether it was a free trial and the time. If you're signed in, we also keep your account ID. We keep answers for 2 years. Deleting your account deletes the answers you gave while signed in.
Share links
When you share a portfolio, the app makes a link to it. A long link holds the whole portfolio in the link itself, and we store nothing. A short link is stored on our server. It holds the portfolio's name, holdings, rebalance rules and tactic, and when the link was made. It also notes whether the link was made on a plan that runs tactics. It holds no account ID, plan or IP address. A link never includes your settings or the words you used to describe a tactic.
Anyone with a link can open the portfolio. Its web page shows the name, holdings, rebalance schedule and tactic name. A short link's page also shows a preview image with the portfolio's CAGR, max drawdown and period. We keep that image and its summary for 30 days, then make them again when the link is opened.
Short links last until we remove them. Deleting your account doesn't remove them, because nothing in them names you. To remove a link, send it to us.
Limits and IP addresses
To prevent abuse, our server counts requests. It counts by account when you're signed in, and by IP address when you're not. Some counts, such as support messages, use your IP address even when you're signed in. The counts hold numbers only, never what you sent. Most delete themselves within 2 days.
Logs
Our server logs errors and service events. Logs don't include your messages, portfolios, tactic descriptions or email address. We keep logs for 1 month.
This website
This website sets no cookies. It has no analytics and loads nothing from other websites. Our logs don't record who visits or which pages they open.
Who handles data for us
- Amazon Web Services runs our server, database, file storage, logs and support emails, in the United States.
- Apple runs Sign in with Apple, App Store payments and subscription notices.
- Google runs Sign in with Google and hosts our support inbox.
- Cloudflare runs our domain's DNS and forwards email sent to support@tryhindsight.fyi.
- Tiingo, our price data provider, receives ticker symbols from our server when it loads a new fund. It never receives anything about you.
We add no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code to Hindsight. We don't work with data brokers. Apple and Google handle sign-in under their own privacy policies.
Where data is stored
Our server and database are in the United States. If you live elsewhere, your data is sent to and stored in the United States.
How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Backtest, report and tool requests | Not kept |
| Your account and subscription records | Until you delete your account |
| Apple's transaction ID and a date | Kept after you delete your account, without it |
| Support messages | Up to 12 months |
| Cancellation survey answers | 2 years |
| Short links | Until removed on request |
| Short link previews | 30 days, then made again |
| Request counts | 2 minutes to 2 days |
| Logs | 1 month |
Our database also keeps backups for a limited time. Deleted data can stay in them until they expire.
Deleting your data
To delete your account, open Account in the app and tap Delete account. We delete at once your account, its sign-in link, its subscription records, and the support messages and survey answers you sent while signed in. Every session ends.
Some things stay:
- Apple's transaction ID and a date, with no account, so a refunded purchase can't be claimed again.
- Short links, which don't name you.
- Messages and answers you sent while signed out, until they expire.
- Request counts, until they expire.
- Support emails in our inbox, until your request is done.
- Logs, for up to 1 month, and database backups, for a limited time.
- What Apple and Google hold under their own policies.
On your iPhone, the app forgets an unsent support message. Your portfolios and settings stay on your iPhone, because they were never on your account.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel your subscription. Cancel it in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
To remove a short link or a message you sent while signed out, or to ask what we hold about you, email support@tryhindsight.fyi.
Security
The app and this website use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your session is stored in your iPhone's Keychain. No system is perfectly secure, so don't send passwords or account numbers in a support message.
Children
Hindsight is a finance research tool and has no features made for children. We don't ask for anyone's age. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date.
